Explanation of Techniques

Deep Tissue Therapy
Used in Therapeutic and Remedial massage, it does not relate to deep pressure but rather focuses on the membrane called “Fascia” which covers and separates all muscles. It is known as “Deep Tissue” as it sits below the epidermis and dermis (skin layers).
When the Fascia becomes tight or misshaped, it causes the muscle to become that way as well, as it is what gives muscle its form. Technique usually is performed without oil and is a pushing or holding against tissue until it gives.

Trigger Point Therapy
There are certain areas within the body that seem to collect metabolic wastes. When this happens, little tight pea-like balls (or bands) form within the muscle fibres causing pain around the immediate and surrounding areas and areas that are fed by the same spinal nerve (this is known as “referred pain”).
Thumb pressure is applied to the trigger point so as to squeeze out the offending toxins and realign the muscle fibres.

Acupressure and Shiatsu
Chinese and Japanese philosophy believe that the body contains channels (called Meridians) which relate to the body’s organs and there are a series of points along these meridians that can become blocked, causing pain and “dis-ease” within the body. This phenomenon is also known as “blocked Chi” (Chi being the energy flow within all living things).
Thumb, palm, knuckle or elbow pressure is applied to unblock these acupoints, allowing the Chi to once again flow freely.
